A Journey Through Time, Tradition, and Turtles
Ishikiri Tsurugiya Shrine, affectionately known as "Ishikiri-san" or "the God of Swellings," is a shrine with a history spanning over 2600 years. It is famous nationwide for the ritual of walking back and forth between the main shrine and the entrance, known as the "hundred times visit." Not only those wishing for healing from illness, but also those interested in the famous sword "Ishikiri Maru" visit this shrine.
The name of the shrine is said to mean "a sharp sword or arrow that cuts stone." The area around the shrine is a bustling town with many shops and fortune-telling stalls, making it a fun spot for sightseeing. The shopping street is lined with pickles, sweets, dumplings, mochi, and more. Oden is particularly popular and is available at many eateries.

The shrine has a unique structure with no worship hall; it directly leads to the main hall. The corridor connecting the main hall and the offering place has a roof, and there's another roof above that, making it a rare arcade-style shrine.
Inside the shrine, there's a divine spirit pond filled with many turtles that might make you think they were real! You can make a wish by placing it inside a ceramic turtle called "Prayer Turtle."
In front of the torii gate of Ishikiri Shrine is the Ishikiri Corridor, a commercial facility planned and designed by students from the Faculty of Architecture at Kinki University. It serves as the starting point for the Ishikiri Shopping Street. This facility aims to create a town that promotes physical and mental health through food and healing. It houses cafes and souvenir shops.
