Tsutenkaku: Osaka's Beloved Sky-High Symbol
Tsutenkaku is an observation tower located in the heart of Shinsekai, Naniwa Ward, Osaka City. For the people of Osaka, Tsutenkaku is a beloved symbol, cherished more than any other tall building or structure.

In 1912, the original Tsutenkaku was born as a symbol tower for Luna Park, an amusement facility at the time. Its design was inspired by the Arc de Triomphe and the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France. The name "Tsutenkaku" means "a tall building reaching the heavens". In 1956, the second generation Tsutenkaku was rebuilt with donations from citizens. It was registered as a Tangible Cultural Property on May 15, 2007. The official character is "Billiken".
It is known as a tourist spot and symbol tower of Osaka. The surrounding entertainment district retains the good old atmosphere of Osaka, and the area centered on Tsutenkaku is now one of the world's leading tourist spots.
