Let's pray for dental health to the god of teeth!
You can see a shrine protected by a bright red torii gate under the elevated Hankyu Umeda Station, a 3-4 minute walk east from JR Osaka Station. This is a "Tooth Shrine" that enshrines a god who is good for toothaches.

The appearance of the shrine has changed greatly from the one I saw about 40 years ago. The shrine building was destroyed by a suspicious fire in late April 1989, and the following year, renovation work was carried out with donations from local shopping streets and volunteers, giving it a new look.
According to the “Higashi Shrine History” that stands in front of the shrine,
"Our company is a subsidiary shrine of Tsunashiki Tenjin Shrine, and was originally worshiped as a god of agriculture, and because the Yodo River was stopped from collapsing in this area, it was worshiped as a "tooth shrine,'' and in the early modern period, it was called the god of teeth. There is a strong belief in the god that is effective against toothaches. ”
According to a person related to the shrine, "Togi Shrine'' is a historical shrine that has been around since the mid-Edo period, and is said to have originally been dedicated to the god of agriculture. It means that it comes from protecting the people. It is said that the belief in the god of teeth, which "stops tooth pain,'' was born because of this practice. A gigantic stone called the Goshintai is enshrined beneath the shrine building, and when he first saw the Goshintai gigantic stone during the aforementioned renovation work, it was said that it was indeed shaped like a tooth.
Let's pray for dental health and longevity to the god of teeth, which is only available here in Japan.
