Namba Yasaka Shrine is a historic shrine located in the Chuo ward of Osaka city. Its origins date back to the reign of Emperor Hanzei, and it is said to have been built in honor of Emperor Nintoku and the deity Susanoo-no-Mikoto. The shrine was originally established in Matsubara City, Osaka Prefecture, when Emperor Hanzei opened the Shibasuka Palace and dedicated it to his father, Emperor Nintoku. Later, it was moved to Kamimachi in Tennoji Ward, and then to its current location in 1583 during the reign of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, after the construction of Osaka Castle. However, after the Siege of Osaka in 1615, the shogunate confiscated 90% of the shrine's land, and the shrine was destroyed in the first air raid on Osaka on March 13-14, 1945. It was rebuilt in July 1974.

Throughout the year, various festivals and events are held at Namba Shrine, with the most notable being the Ayame Festival (Iris Festival) held in June. During this festival, a Shinto ritual is performed where iris flowers grown on the shrine grounds are offered to the gods, and a dance called "Shobu Kari" is performed by shrine maidens. In addition, the Setsubun Festival and Tamanoi Festival are held in February, and the Reisai Festival and Autumn Festival are held on October 20.

As a place where visitors can experience Osaka's history and culture, Namba Shrine is a must-visit spot for tourists. Its historical background and the festivals and events held throughout the year leave a deep impression on visitors. When you visit Osaka, be sure to stop by Namba Shrine.
